a charactrer design

I have been asked to make proposal of poster for new comedy which is prepared in ctv production at the moment. Well, because i was convinced that a shocked deer character would be appropriate to the theme of ‘men in rut’ I’ve made one:]

So in the end i decided that i’ll try to make some digital painting..

So and there is a last stage of it. I’ve distinguished the candle flame and put more of light reflections on closest wood surfaces.
It isn’t too bad for my first acrylic project… :]

tuning of light and shadows

So after couple of hovers I’ve came with this picture. On this one is a change in some details which were wrong in previous stage. At first I’ve though that shadows were not enough dark and secondly there were on wrong positions. So I’ve fixed the placing of them and then found out that a “Brilliant violet” is ideal color for darkening of dark brown tone, because i didn’t want to use a black color or any dark greys..

next layer and firt light rendering

After the transparent wash I’ve started to apply next layer with no transparency and after it has dried I’ve became to render light.
Light source is only the candle so it hasn’t been so difficult to define a shadow.

first tonal work

So after long time wondering how to research a tonal work and what technics apply on the hand drawn work I’ve decided to use acrylic paints.
This was first picture I’ve came with. It’s been just first color wash with a lot of water…

Nex step would be to cover it with new layer with no opaque colors at all.
